Absolutely Fabulous

Hi!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards.  For my card today, I decided to use the Shoe & Purse Brads.  As you can see from the picture, the shoes come in three different shades of pink and there are two different type of purses.

I used all the options available and a several other EO products like the Woman's Eye Glass Brads, Swirl Bling-Clear, Pink Dot Washi Tape, Pink Checked Washi Tape, and Glitter Black Washi Tape.

And here's the card I made; a Side-Step Card (for which there's a template on the Freebies page):

For my card, I used Basic Black card stock, double matted with Melon Mambo card stock and Pop of Pink patterned paper..  I added the Pink Checked Washi Tape on a diagonal to break up the pattern of the DSP a bit and I think it helps to let the brads stand out!

The mirror was cut using a Silhouette store cut file.  I just created an oval to fit inside for my mirror and cut it from Silver Foil Paper (SU)

Now, as for my little boutique display, I created shelves for the merchandise and spaced them so everything would fit nicely.  The hat and it's base as well as the perfume bottle and dress form were created by tracing around free clip-art in my Silhouette.  As finishing touches, I added a bracelet hanging from the top shelf, a band to the hat with a small flower with a tiny Swirl Bling Jewel in the center, a pair of jewels on the glasses and the perfume bottle cut from Glitter Black Washi Tape.  I colored all the clear bling with Copic markers.  Those are some well stocked shelves!

The dress was free clip art on the Internet and traced around it, cutting it in white card stock.  I knew I wanted to use the Pink Dot Washi, but it wasn't looking right so I tried something new and I love how it worked...I made pleats in the skirt.  Easy to do really.
  • Fold the washi tape in on itself, each side into the middle.
  • Make nine of these slightly longer than the length of the dress from waist to hem
  • Place a piece of unfolded washi down the center of the dress, waist to hem
  • Start layers your "pleats" from the outside in.  The two outermost pleats will be trimmed to the sides of the dress as will the waist and hem.  You can adhere your pleats as you go or dry fit them to make sure you have your placement correct
  • Continue placing each pleat, slightly overlapping each until you get to the center.
  • I decided to cut the dress at the waist when I was trimming the sides and hem.  Then I placed it on a second dress where I placed two pieces of washi from shoulders to waist.
  • I attached the Swirl Bling Jewels down the center.
  • At the waist, I placed a sash, which I just sketched and fussy cut after adding Glitter Black Washi Tape
Just in case that sounds clear as mud, I have a Freebie pictorial for you.  I included the dress and belt as well as the other traced clip-art items I used.

Rather than put a greeting on the front, I placed it in a rather unique location and I like it.  I would definitely do this again.

Then the sentiment follows with a picture I purchased in the Silhouette store.  I color matched it to the brads.

I enjoyed making this...it's a close as I'll come to going for a shopping spree!

Cinema: Admit One

I love going to the movies!  It has been a couple of months since we've been because we all seem to all be going in different directions with hectic schedules, especially since school started again.  I'm hoping to go soon to see the one with Judi Dench.  I love her!

Our new movie brads and this retro designer paper are what inspired today's card.

I adhered some wide ticket washi tape to some white card stock and bordered it with some skinny washi tape, adding a little red pearl heart and a tiny red bow because that little bit of red in the washi tape design caught my eye.

Don't you adore these brads?!  Against some black, white and retro they really stand out!

Inside there's a little heart jewel bling atop black and white layers for another pop of color.

Happy Friday!  Have a great weekend!

WITCH Way... to the Candy?

Halloween is fast approaching, but there's still plenty of time to grab some awesome Eyelet Outlet goodies to make your cards even more BOO-tiful! There is a spooktacular selection of seasonal brads in the shop, of which I (Lauren) have used only a few, including: the brand new-- and utterly awesome-- Witch Leg BradsWitch HatsMini SpidersMini Candy CornBats and Small Eye Brads.

Of course it didn't hurt that I unearthed an ancient sheet of patterned paper that had the sweet circle icons of witches, spiders and monsters, all ready for me to embellish!

But the ideas in this card would work with loads of papers and stamps. ANY small witch (or other animal, monsta or person) could wear the Hats (the packets contain all four styles); the Small Eyes have both sizes together and could be swapped out for the eyes of many stamped creatures.

In addition to the brads on my card, there are also Monsters, full-sized Spiders (to go with the Minis)Kitten Brads (they come as a mix of black and white, each in two positions) and lots more!

There are so many good Halloween choices in the Eyelet Outlet Store it's almost *SCARY*!

...does not recommend inviting Monster Brads and Kitten Brads to the same photo shoot,
especially if there are unattended Candy Corn Brads on hand!

Antique Cars

Today I'm featuring Antique Car Washi Tape backgrounds with awesome vintage car illustrations.

For this first card, I attached the Washi Tape to a scrap of white cardstock.  I love the wonderful grey/tan shade of this tape.

My first card uses a vintage Mercedes Benz with this week's Sketch from The Paper Players.

I added a Happy Birthday Road Sign Arrow Brad together with a sticker sentiment to complete the masculine design.

For the next one, I attached the tape to a scrap of lime green cardstock to coordinate with my fun little card.  This tape isn't quite as as translucent as other Washi Tapes, but you can see how the different color of cardstock did change the hue of the background.

I would totally love to have one of these fun little Goggomobiles.  I used another Road Sign Arrow sentiment for this design.

Be a Good One

Hi folks!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards.  Happy to be with you today!

I love so many of the brads, eyelets and washi at Eyelet Outlet, it becomes a difficult choice when deciding what I want to use in my next card.  I couldn't wait to use these Eggs, so that's what I'm working with today in my card that offers some good advice:

The package includes 12 eggs, 6 brown and 6 white.  I'm working with just the brown eggs today, so I needed two packs to make a dozen.  But I have plans for the white eggs in future cards; so stay tuned.

I knew I wanted to have a carton of a dozen eggs on the front, but I couldn't find a cut file for an egg carton anywhere; so I made one!  It took me way too long to do; but once I have my mind set on something, nothing else will do.  There's a template for it on the Freebies page should you want to make one for your Eyelet Outlet Eggs!

I love how it turned out and I'm now thinking of how I can use it on another card!  Maybe something with cooking!  Here's a closer look:

I have no idea where I got this digital patterned paper.  It has been on my computer for a long time and this card seemed like the perfect reason to use it.  I print and cut it and then used it to select the coordinating card stock; Garden Green, Peach Parfait and Really Rust with Whisper White for printed pieces.

I embossed the patterned paper with the Chicken Wire embossing folder, which was just the thing the paper needed.

At the bottom I placed a little banner with one of the companion pieces to the paper and topped it off with Glitter Enamel Dots and, inside, I used the eggs from the Bacon, Egg & Toast Brads in the perfect sentiment.

After I added the patterned paper, the card still seemed bland.  Embossing the entire card base with the same embossing folder...better!  The right hand side was still too plain, so I added another companion piece.  I simply enlarged the pattern and cut out a single chicken for the front and another for the inside.

Here's a closer look at the sentiment:

I hope you liked my card.  I'll be working with eggs again soon, so stay tuned.  In the meantime, if you're looking for some other awesome ideas for using the all the Egg Brads in the store, just click here!

Feel Better Soon!

When I was a little girl I dreamed of growing up to be a nurse (and ended up becoming a physical therapist).  This clean and simple get well card brings back memories of being a candy striper at the hospital.

These nurse brads set the stage for a red, black and white color scheme, which is one of my favorites.   Aren't they cute?  I love how detailed they are!

The black and white striped washi tape from one of our skinny washi tape sets is another go-to favorite, which makes a nice frame for the red and white pin-dot designer paper.  A shiny satin bow with a sticky back heart pearl center and a W+9 sentiment finish the card.

Lots of friends have said that with their kids back in school, the germs are being passed around, so I am sure a quick card like this will be good to have in the stash for just such an occasion!  I hope you and yours are well and that you have a great weekend!

Let's Connect!

The Eyelet Outlet Design Team and I have been having so much fun creating with the new Fall, 2017 products and now you can, too!  The new brads are NOW in the store!  Today's project features our brand new Pipe Brads.

I found this SVG of a maze of pipes on Etsy from LineWorkStock and then I added several of the Pipe Fittings from our new set, "Pipe Brads."  The bright red turn off valve brad included in the set added a nice punch of color to my card as did our Tool Box Brad.  And of course, Eyelet Outlet had just the wrench I needed to connect all my pipe fittings in our set of Tool Brads!

Stop by Eyelet Outlet and check out all of our new releases!

Love You a Latte

It's the middle of September, which means it's time for the Fall Coffee Lovers Bloghop, and since I (Lauren) have the *PERFECT* ingredients-- Eyelet Outlet Coffee Brads-- I'm excited to jump on board.

The older I get, the more I appreciate Autumn: cooler temperatures, beautiful colors as the foliage here in the Northeast changes, and yes, a delicious warm caffeinated beverage are all things I enjoy, so I've tried to capture them in my card. I started by adorning the oversized copper "LOVE" diecut with a few paper flowers and the adorable Coffee Brads. I wanted to emphasize the sentiment a little bit more, so I added a couple of Pearl Hearts to the cups. Did you know that you can create your own custom bling and pearls, just by coloring them with alcohol ink markers? Thus I was able to make mine the perfect shade of golden yellow to coordinate with the diecut vintage paper leaves I had watercolored with all my favorite fall shades of ColorBurst.

When it came time to build the card, I lined up some neat strips of Wide Brick WashiGlitter Copper and Skinny Orange Tape so that I would have the perfect home for my compound sentiment. And whereas I may be the only coffee-loving American who doesn't love Pumpkin Spice flavoring in my coffee, that doesn't mean I don't love to mix a few Pumpkin Brads with my Coffee Brads, lol!

I always start with a slightly bigger background than I think I'm going to need, so I don't run out of room. In this case, I wound up with a 3x6" offcut of woodgrain paper with the beautiful layers of tape, which seemed like the perfect size to make an extra little tag!

A few more leaves, a heart diecut, some smaller alphas and another Coffee + Pumpkin Brad pairing and I was good to go!

is looking forward to cool weather
and warm drinks this autumn!

Are you CURED yet?

Living in the Midwestern farmland, I love all of the fun farm animal brads from Eyelet Outlet.

I gathered the entire herd of Farm Animal Brads together for this fun birthday card using sentiments from My Favorite Things The Whole Herd.

I couldn't find a fence die or punch in my stash, so I created a birthday-fence using a Stampin' Up Candle Border Punch.  It's hard to pick a favorite, but I love that little piggie.

I used more of those cute little piggie brads for my next card.

I grounded my piggies with some fun skinny grass washi tape.  Sentiments are from the same MFT The Whole Herd Set.

The new brads will be in the store very soon.
