Out of Circulation

Hi!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards!  Happy to be here!

The brads I'm using today for my design team post are part of the new Spring release.  And, wow, what a release!

When I saw these Book Brads, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.  I just wasn't sure how I was going to do it.  But, lo and behold, it worked out.  Don't you love when that happens?

Here's the card I made:

I scoured the Internet for free clip art of a sleeping cat.  I found this and thought it was perfect, but the image was only the front half of the cat.  No artist am I, but I muddled through and drew his bottom half.  I played around with placement and got the book and cat the way I wanted them and then attached them on an oval of vanilla and  double matted it.  If you purchase these brads to make a card like this, let me know and I'll send you the cat image.

I cut the book card base from a cut file purchased in the Silhouette store, each layer a slightly darker shade of brown.  On the top, vanilla piece, I typed the greeting using the Ancient Script font.  I sponged the edges of each layer with Soft Suede ink...after all out of circulation books should look aged.

The same font was used inside for the sentiment, with a play on words.  I also converted the cut lines from the layers on the front to print lines for inside as a nice accent.

As you can see from the photo at the top of this post, these book brads come in two different colorways.  The other has bright, primary colors; perfect for school projects!

See you next week with another card!

Who provided the inspiration for these cards? Katy did!

  4. Great card Kim, both inside and out!! Love the layers and how you've used those book brads. By the way, anyone that can draw a piece to add on to an image that blends so well that no one would know without your telling, is an artist ;O)
