Holiday Lights

I feel a real attachment to these Eyelet Outlet Holiday Lights Brads because they remind me of the kind of lights we had on our Christmas Tree when I was a child.  They were so big and they were all colors!  The mini white lights that are so common today are pretty, but they just don't say "Christmas" to me the way multi-colored lights do!  

In the bottom corner of my card added some holly drawn with my Cricut Explore from the Photo Fun Holiday Memories cartridge and blinged it up a bit with some red Eyelet Outlet jeweled bling.  I used Cricut Adhesive Foil for the sentiment for even more "Bright!"

Merry and Bright (...times two...)

December first is fassssssssst approaching, which means it's time to get *SERIOUS* about making our holiday cards. Stephanie and I (Lauren) work on ours all year round, via Jingle Belles, but I nearly always find I need a few more right at the end, which is why I'm so glad to have a stash of Christmassy Eyelet Outlet goodies, like these awesome Holiday Light Brads!

There are probably a gazzillion great ways to use these, but I'll confine myself to just two... for now. My first thought was a strand of Xmas lights, in a tumble, with a swirly cord. Since I had to do the machine stitching before I set the brads, I not only dry fit where I thought I'd want each bulb to go, I also drew, very lightly in pencil, the path I thought the swirl should take. 

After I was done the decorative sewing, I set the brads, attached my sticker sentiment with foam tape, and went back to attach the panel to my 6x6" card. I used white thread this time, instead of black, so the strand of lights would get more attention than the perimeter of the card. 

My second idea was to attach the Holiday Lights where they most naturally belonged: on evergreen branches! My first set were diecut from some realistic-looking pine-green cardstock. Which, oddly enough, turned out to be exactly the wrong color choice, since the bulbs didn't stand out nearly as much as I expected. So I went back and this time chose a pale green shade with a very faint abstract pattern, which looks NOTHING like an actual Christmas tree, but showed off the brads to much better advantage. 

Attaching the foliage to my A2 card, I applied adhesive only to the stems of the diecuts, leaving the pine needles a bit loose, so I could curl them up for more dimension. Because, of course, I knew that when I set the brads on top of the foliage, they would act as a second attachment for the diecuts. 

Now that the thoughts of brightly lit branches are in my head, I'm excited to go to the Christmas tree farm next Sunday! But first, maybe I'll make a few more cards... ♥

Quick Christmas Cards

All you need are a few stickers, washi tape, brads and designer papers to pull together a set of quick Christmas cards.

The first one uses Merry Christmas Washi Tape for the border, a poinsettia brad embellished sticker and lots of new flower bling for snowflakes.

The next sticker was embellished with a Pine Tree Brad and fun winter Sled ... paired with Christmas tree paper & a sticker sentiment, it all comes together.

Holly Leaves and Berries embellish this Merry Christmas Sticker with lots more holly leaves in the papers.

Sleighin' It!

Hello, everyone.  It's Kim from Katydid Cards. 

I'm still having fun working with the new brads in the Eyelet Outlet store.  I particularly like the selection in this release.  Then again, I particularly liked the previous release...and will undoubtedly like the next release.  Okay, I confess.  I love 'em all!  If you haven't caught the new releases yet, what are you waiting for?  Here's the link to the new brads AND there's new washi tape in the store, too.  Here's a link to that.  

Today I'm working with the Sled and Pine Tree Brads as well as the Sun (and Cloud) Brads to create my little "Sleighin' It" scene.

I thought a Standing Pop-Up Card would be a perfect way to showcase these brads and I'm happy with the result.  If you've never made one before, there's a template for you on the Freebies page.  It's not difficult even though it has a "wow" factor to it.

To create the hills, I simply freehand cut three separate pieces of Whisper White cardstock.  I attached them to some Bashful Blue cardstock (retired Stampin' Up). When I had an arrangement I liked, I simply trimmed the excess from the bottom.  Before adding my brads, I added Shimmer Spritz...liberally.  My base was cut from heavy Whisper White cardstock.  I printed my greeting on regular Whisper White using the AlwaysHere font.  It was matted on a piece of yellow cardstock, color matched to digital patterned paper from the All That's Timeless Kit by Traci Reed.  This paper coordinated with the sleds beautifully.

To finish, I punched a circle, scored it in the middle and attached it over the end of the card.  I punched a 1/4" hole in the center and tucked some ribbon through.  I also used a corner punch for the top edges of the card.  Here's a closer look at the scene:

As much as I love the winter theme, I also like the sentiment on the reverse.  I think this would make a smile break out on the recipient's face!

The nice thing about this card technique is that it fold's flat for mailing.

Girlfriends are...

...born to shop!  It's Black Friday, so today's project is all about the shopping!  This trio of blinged-out grandmas is out for a good time together while searching for some great bargains!  

This shopping bag is a recycled bag from the bookstore where my son works.  I covered the logo with some cute designer papers in holiday colors, paper-piecing the focal image with scraps from the same paper pad.  The edges of the green panel are bordered with sticky jewel bling strips.  My favorite, most-oft-used washi tape set, Eyelet Outlet's 5-roll skinny washi tape set, plays along nicely with some music washi and planner washi for a fun calendar theme that harmonizes with the designer paper.  The big layered paper flower mimics the flowers in their hats,  which were given single jewel accents cut from the sticky back bling strips.  Yep, these are gaudy grandmas!  The more bling, the better!  ;)

The tag accenting the top of the bag features more skinny washi tape, a sticky-back bling heart and a tiny calendar of December.

When I saw this sentiment at LoveSVG.com, I knew I had to pair it with Eyelet Outlet products and I'm sure you'll agree!  Eyelet Outlet has such an amazing collection of brads that inspiration is everywhere!

These Christmas Cookie Brads look good enough to eat, don't they?  The frosting and sprinkles look so realistic and of course there are so many fun uses for the Santa Hat Brad that you'll never want to run low on those!  I have all my "cooking" and "food" themed brads in a separate organizer from my "holiday" collection, so I quickly retrieved that organizer for a couple of Carrot Brads from the Eyelet Outlet Vegetable Brads Collection and Eyelet Outlet's new Prancing Deer Brad  completed the scene perfectly, didn't it?!

So Thankful

As we in the United States prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow, I (Lauren) am feeling especially grateful for family, friends, health, creativity, and for the Eyelet Outlet team, who are truly some of the nicest and most talented folks you could ever hope to meet!

It was impossible to resist making just one more Thanksgiving card with my favorite autumnal supplies, so I didn't even try not to, lol. This time I applied that awesome watercolor-y Wide Pumpkin Washi to plain white cardstock, added a band of Skinny Orange Tape to the top and bottom, then diecut my letters. I used an orange brush marker to ink the edges just slightly, and popped the letters up on thin strips of foam tape to get a little more dimension.

For my focal accent I stacked a Pumpkin Brad on top of a diecut pumpkin and attached a tiny yellow Mini Stitched Flower Brad and a Mini Leaf. By letting some of the brads overlap each other, it makes for a more cohesive cluster, which perfectly fills the center of a large white Paper Flower. One of my favorite "flower tricks" is to snip apart a few medium-sized green paper flower petals to use as leaves, and I love how they finish off the design.

To trim out the orange gingham patterned paper, I added Clear Bling Strips on top, and a skinny (skinny!) border of Glitter Gold Tape, set off by my favorite retro finishing touch: a border made with scallop patterned deco scissors!

Christmas Card Trio

Brads make any Christmas card a little extra-special.

I started with simple holiday stickers and added brads to each one to *kick-it-up-a-notch*.  This one uses this week's Sunday Stamps Sketch.  I added some of my favorite glitter enamel dots (that work perfectly with my glitter paper) and a sentiment sticker.

I loved how the tree brad fit right over the tree riding on top of the car ... oh the memories wandering through the tree farm to find that perfect tree (and then it seldom fitting when we got home).

For my next one I added a Santa Hat Brad to make my Christmas Cardinal just a little more festive.

And my final one this week is a variation on the Sunday Stamps Sketch all decked in gold with a lovely ornament and warm woolen mittens.

Christmas Wreath

Hi!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards and I'm posting again today with the last of the Christmas cards I made using Eyelet Outlet products.  I ran out of time, but not ideas for so many more Christmas and holiday cards.  Well, there's always next year.

I made this Christmas wreath using four sizes of Pearl Bling, colored with Copic markers.  They were placed randomly placed on a circle of green cardstock.  The bow was made by placing Gold Skinny Glitter Washi Tape on bow shaped cardstock.   I cut three bows so I could layer it for added dimension.

I cut the card base from Brushed Gold cardstock (retired Stampin' Up) which was the perfect backdrop for the wreath.  I used a cut file from the Silhouette Design Store to make the accordion base and mats.  The mats were cut from Stampin' Up patterned paper...from a Christmas long ago collection.

Here's a closer look at the wreath.  I really like the look of this and am trying to think of other shapes I can use.  I think I might look for rhinestone patterns and go from there.

Song Cues

Hello everyone!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards and this week I'm working with song cues.  Deck the halls with...llamas?  Yep, that's exactly what this card does.  This adorable trio of llamas are all decked out in their Christmas attire; Santa Hat, Holly and Antler Brads.

I printed the llamas on Whisper White and cut them in the scalloped oval using a cut file I purchased in the Silhouette Design Store.  There was very little coloring needed; just their faces, ears and feet.  I placed the brads where I wanted them and lightly marked their outlines on the llamas.  Then I removed them and applied their "fur" with the Marvy Snow Marker.  I heated it and...instant fur.  When it was fully dry, I replaced the brads.

This focal panel was placed, on pop dots, on a larger scalloped oval cut from Red Foil Paper.  They were placed on a mat covered with Glitter Red Star Washi Tape...this is absolutely beautiful washi tape.  I ran Red Foil Washi Tape around the perimeter of the card base.  As a finishing touch, I placed some of the Red Foil Washi on some scrap cardstock and punched out using a Star Confetti Punch from Stampin' Up.

Next, I have a card for cat lovers.  Those of us with cats can so appreciate the humor...and the truth of the greeting on this card.  And the sentiment inside, too.

To make this card I used the Cat and Holly Brads as well as Pink Pearl Jewel Bling Strip and Chalkboard Washi Tape.  I used several Silhouette Design Store files to make the window and banner.

From the North Pole!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and that means that Santa will soon be making his holiday debut!  Letters are gonna be flying to the North Pole, and Santa might just answer a few himself!  Eyelet Outlet has so many cute brads and washi tapes to dress those letters in style!

For this project Santa Mail washi tape, Santa washi tape, and skinny washi tape are a fast and easy way to establish the themed background for an envelope and mailbox from our mail brads set.  Sticky back pearl hearts accent the scalloped edge of a strip of designer paper.  

Inside another pearl heart sits beside the sentiment.  

It is exciting to make a wishlist to send to Santa and a real thrill to get a card SWAK from Santa in return!  A fast, fun project with lasting memories!  A quick search for Christmas and/or Santa will turn up all kinds of ideas!  Time to get busy!
