One Door Closes

There are some very funny "sign guys" out and about on social media and when I (Lauren) saw this one-liner I knew I had to use my Eyelet Outlet Classic Car Brads and Map Tape to make a card. I framed the sentiment with a panel of Tire Track Washi and another of Wide Brick Tape, added a quartet of Screw Brads and called it a day.

Lauren's 2023 Favorites

It's that time again, the Eyelet Outlet Design Team is picking our favorite projects of 2023; and at the same time, we're getting ready to make brand new inspiring creations for 2024! Here are five of my (Lauren's) personal picks... in more or less chronological order. Click the bolded text to visit the original posts for additional description and direct product links.

It's impossible (imo) to Flamin-Go wrong with EO Flamingo and Beachy Brads. When a friend sent me this hilarious pun, I literally couldn't get to my supplies fast enough!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and this vertical Girls Tape not only captures that vibe perfectly, it pairs seamlessly with pretty much any combination of Brads and Tapes that appeal to your favorite gal.

The new Sugar Skull Brads arrived at the end of the summer, and were instant faves. This Viva la Vida card, posted on Dia de los Muertos, turned out exactly like the picture that was in my head.

Eyelet Outlet Pinata Brads were also brand new this year and my first thought was to make a Smashing Shaker Card with EO Sequins inside. I stand by that decision.

The new Driving Brads pair brilliantly with Classic Car Brads, Compass Brads, and loads of tape styles; for instant Masculine Card perfection.

is looking forward to another year of brads, tapes and diabolical puns!

You're Not Old...

...You're a Classic! Eyelet Outlet Driving Brads are the perfect accent for masculine cards. They pair beautifully with our Classic Car Brads of course and there are lots of terrific Washi Tape selections to support the theme. In this case, a panel of wide Map Washi is framed with strips of Road Tape; then that panel is offset on a slightly larger one made of Tire Track Washi framed in Glitter Black Tape. A Compass Brad is the perfect finishing touch.

Check out all of the wonderful Brads, Tapes, Bling, Flowers and more in the Eyelet Outlet Store!

The ABC's of Eyelet Outlet

A couple of years ago, I (Lauren) made a little ATC-sized book with as many Eyelet Outlet brad styles, arranged alphabetically, as I could fit... which turned out to be quiiiiiiiite a few! That project was so much fun, I decided to do it again. So here are the letters A through E:

Here's a complete list of the brads used, I tried to change it up and add some lesser-known ones in addition to all my favorites!

A: Mini Ants(Vacation) Arrows, an Ambulance (from the First Responders set), Aprons (from the BBQ set, which also has a Grill), and both styles of Apple Brad.

B: Bicycle BradBrown (Teddy) Bears(School) Bus Brad, Bottles and a mug of Beer (all found in the Beer set), plus one handsome Bluebird from the Bluebird and Robin set.

C: Candle Brads, a Swirl Cupcake, Crown (from the Crown and Tiara set), ComputerClassic Cars and a Chicken Brad.

D: Doggos (including a Puppy Brad a Paw and the supper dish from the Kennel Mix), DinosaurDonut Brad and a Deer plus a Prancing Deer.

E:  EaglesEye Glass Brad, Emergency (technically the police car from the First Responders set), Eggs (and a Fried Egg from the Bacon, Egg and Toast set), Elephant from the Jungle Mix set.

ABC's headline: one of our two styles of Sunglass BradButterfly BradClassic CarCrownBusBluebird, Ring (from the Wedding set), Mini LadybugBeer Brad.

Stay tuned for the letters F through J, coming next week to the Eyelet Outlet Blog!

is a big fan of
alphabetical order!

Happy (Almost) Father's Day

It's nearly Father's Day, but there's still a little time to make an extra-special card featuring some of the things Dads love: grillin'... (thanks to Eyelet Outlet BBQ Brads); chillin'...  (courtesy of our Beer Brads); and crusin' down the highway... with our Classic Car Brads!

Here's fair warning regarding my (Lauren's) cards for the rest of the summer: I am OBSESSED with the new Extra-Wide Sky Washi Tape! At 50mm (almost 2") you can cut a nice, long, easy-peel strip and that's the whole sky on a slimline card. I punched cardstock grass to meet it about a third of the way, et voila... instant landscape! I spelled out the central word of my "Happy Father's Day" sentiment in chunky cork alphabet stickers and clustered my BBQ BradsBeer BradsClassic CarsMini BeesSun and Cloud Brads around them; then added a thin yellow cardstock mat and a slightly thicker one made of Wood Washi, to serve as a frame.

There are plenty of other traditional Dad-related items in the EO Store; you could rock a Camping theme... Fishing theme... a Food and Drink theme... a Motorcycle theme... or a Tool theme; and if your Dad is less traditional, I bet we still have something fun that will work!

is still loving slimline cards!

It's All Abbout the Washi Tape!

Today's card isn't a card!  It's a project that's fun to make, it lets creativity shine and it's useful!  Today, it's all about the Eyelet Outlet Washi Tape, Brads, and bookmarks.

This is a fun technique of blending two coordinating (or not) Eyelet Outlet Washi Tapes and making a bookmark.  It requires a bit of creativity, a bit of measuring, and lot of fun!

In the picture above, the unicorn bookmark was made using the Eyelet Outlet Unicorn Washi Tape and the Skinny Dotted Silver Washi Tape.  Here's how it's done:
  1.  Cut a bookmark base at 2" x 5.25"
  2.  Measure down on the left side .75" and place a light pencil mark.  Do the same for the right side.
  3. At the top, measure in .75" from each side
  4. Create the bookmark angles.  On the left side of the bookmark cut from the mark .75" down to the mark .75" across the top.  Do the same on the right side.
  5.  Select a backing paper if desired and cut larger(as desired) than the bookmark base.  Adhere the bookmark base to the backing paper.
  6.  Select two coordinating Eyelet Outlet Washi Tapes.
  7. Place the first tape at the bottom of the bookmark leaving extra on both sides (this will be taken care of later) and tear off the roll.
  8.  Add the second tape above the first tape leaving no space between them and tear off the roll.
  9.  Continue steps 7 & 8 until the bookmark is covered.
  10.  Now even the edges either by cutting them off or by folding the excess tape to the back of the bookmark (folding is easier, trust me on this one)
  11. Punch a hole at the center top of bookmark about .5" down and add string, twine or ribbon as desired.
  12.  Now decorate:  add a message with lettering, stamping, or stickers.  Be Creative!
  13.  Add a coordinating Eyelet Outlet Brad.  Both brads in the picture above are mounted on a 1"x1" square edged with one of the Eyelet Outlet Washi Tapes.  It is mounted on the bookmark with foam squares.
This is a great project for kids 8+.  These bookmarks can be made to keep, trade with friends, or given as gifts.  Please note:  supervision is a good thing to ensure safety with the scissors and/or paper trimmer with younger children.  You may want to create the bookmark bases ahead of time and have them begin with Step 6.

Let's GO!

(Lauren) am taking you on a (metaphorical) road trip today, because my Eyelet Outlet Classic Car Brads are all revved up and ready to roll!

Possibly my all-time favorite type of "found" paper is old maps. They are great in collage, they are terrific as giftwrap (the big folding ones, especially!) and they are fantastic background for a masculine card! You don't need a particularly old map, even quite recent ones can be lovely and thanks to all the GPS-users today, you can often get an armful of maps at a garage sale for a dollar or so. The other vintage ingredients I used are a few playing cards from a game called "Touring"; an incomplete set of which I was given for Christmas from someone who knows how much I love old paper, lol. As soon as I saw the road trip motif I knew they would be awesome with the Classic Car Brads and I stand by that belief! Since they were the size of standard playing cards I needed to trim them down in order to fit a few of my favorite bits onto one A2 sized card. I fussycut the traffic light and added a Compass Brad to the center circle.

I matted my trimmed-down mini cards, as well as the map panel, on cardstock I adorned with strips of Glitter Silver Tape. I ran a strip of Tire Track Washi Tape around the center of the card and at the very end I added a few Star BradsEt voila

I bet you have some outdated maps and maybe even a game or two which doesn't have all its parts. I also bet you could match them to some Eyelet Outlet Brads and Washi Tape to make a beautiful and unique card for someone special! ♥

...is an excellent driver!

3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In a few days, we'll be counting down the clock to the new year, 2020.  It's a time of celebration, fireworks, hope, family, friends, and setting resolutions for the year to come.

Today's shadow box card entitled "3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR" captures some of those feelings with Eyelet Outlet's classic cars and red truck perched on a hill watching the fireworks emphasized with bling strips.  The fence features Eyelet Outlet's ladybug, ant, and bright flowers while the Eyelet Outlet silver glitter enamel dots are a finishing touch adorning the happy new year sign at the top of the card.

The floating 2020 sign is accomplished through the use of  heavyweight acetate and matches the fence made of silver glitter paper.  The box card is lined with fireworks paper and is created from a Stamps of Life die.  A hand-written note or sentiment stamp can be included on the back of the shadow box card.

This card will bring a smile to anyone young or old celebrating the new year  Head on over to the Eyelet Outlet site for the items you can include in your 2020 card.

Another Year Races By

I (Lauren) may be slightly obsessed with the new Eyelet Outlet Classic Car Brads, so please forgive me if I overuse them! For today I just have two cards, which seems manageable, right?

A great many of my cards start with a sentiment. In this case, my first idea was inspired by the fact that the Classic Car Brads look pretty sporty, which made me think of racing, and of course the older I get the faster the years race by! I printed my sentiment in a font called Cafe Rojo on a clear inkjet label and stuck it to a little paper flag. I made a fun background from a slightly distressed green patterned paper that I adorned with randomly placed strips of Tire Track Washi Tape, and punched a few 1" circles in the panel. Then I affixed the Car Brads to scraps of vintage map that i had backed with some plain white cardstock and adhered those BEHIND the punched circles, so my cars appeared through the windows.

My second idea was inspired by the Revved Up Gift Set I made this summer. It featured a vintage car illustration cut from an old falling apart book, but it occurred to me that if I scaled everything down to a smaller size, the same basic idea would work with the Classic Car Brads. I diecut some small nested label shapes and set my Car Brads, along with a Compass Brad. Then I set about building a card to hold them!

Nearly everything I used was also featured in the Gift Set, I just made it all a bit smaller to fit an A2 card. I placed artfully torn Brick Tape and strips of Sparkle Copper Foil Tape in a horizontal band across the card. I layered on some blueprint-inspired patterned paper, then added more tape: the Tire Track Washi and some fun Map Tape. I used another computer printed sentiment, this one in my favorite typewriter font, which reads, "You're a Classic"!

I hope you'll be inspired to RACE over to the Eyelet Outlet Store and grab some Classic Car Brads for yourself! ♥

still loves washi tape
very, VERY much!
