BIG Initials!

One of the easiest ways that I (Lauren) have found to quickly customize a plain store-bought gift bag is with giant initials, covered in Eyelet Outlet Washi Tape of which... fortunately... I happen to have quite a bit! I've also got some fun Enamel Hearts and Stars, which I've scattered around the bags for even more texture and interest.

It seems counter-intuitive to start with the tape rather than the initial, but in fact, that's sort of what I did. I did size and print my initials on plain white cardstock first, but... I didn't cut them out. Instead, I took my 4x6" outline letters (the font is called Storybook) and stapled them to 5x7" pieces of cardstock covered in neat strips of washi. Then, I cut them out!

Between my three initials, I've used about three dozen different tape styles, and I'll name and link a bunch of those in a minute, but really... this idea will work with ANY combination of tapes you like! You can organize them by color, as I have here; or by theme, or in rainbow order, or create patterns with the tape or... well, this is quite a flexible method and thus perfect for making the initials as unique as their recipients! I adhered my finished initials to some solid cardstock to create a skinny outline, then added some of the same tapes to each bag to complete the design.

And now here's a fairly thorough list of the tapes I used, from top to bottom, for each letter!

Letter K: Flower Washi, Pink Foiled Rose, Skinny Calendar Tape, Unicorn Washi, Zigzag, Pink Checked, Macaron, more Skinny Calendar (the set has three different styles), wide Funky Bird Tape, Heart Tape from the Valentine set, Tiny Hearts, the third of the Skinny Calendar Tapes and Pink + White Dots.

Letter R: Star Tape, Owl Washi, Script Tape, Skinny XO Foil Tape, XO Washi which is sadly out of print, Foiled Silver Dots, Antique Car Tape, Tire Tracks, Road Tape, Wood Washi, Music Keyboard Tape and a repeat of XO, Script and Stars.

Letter S: Cloud Washi, Skinny Tape, Purple Zigzag, Rainbow Tape, Purple Checked, Skinny Calendar Tape, Purple Gingham Check and Purple/Green Stripe Tape have, alas, gone; Llama Washi, More Clouds, Foiled Flower Tape and finally Purple Dots and Japanese Tape are also out of print, but... Shades of Spring

It's my pleasure to welcome you to the weekend! This is Rebecca, and I have a couple of cards to share today.  An extra warm welcome to anyone visiting from the Eyelet Outlet booth at the Pleasanton, CA Scrapbook Expo!

I saw my first Reese's egg and Cadbury bunny commercials on February 15th, and now I'm obsessed with thoughts of spring and Easter candy.  Is that normal?  All the Girl Scout cookie tables aren't helping, either.

But instead of eating a giant Easter basket's worth of sugar, I dove into my washi and brad stash and crafted a little spring sunshine!






A bright mix of washi, brads, dots and paper flowers, all circling a bling strip....not as tasty as a bag full of Starburst jellybeans or some caramel-filled anything, but the work kept me out of a box of Girl Scout cookies, so there's that.



I liked it so much, I tried this second version for an Easter card.



I added some gold Sharpie marker on a chocolate bunny to make them looked wrapped and to match the card sentiment.  I just can't stop myself - now I'm dreaming of Lindt!

Wild Horses.......

Hello again, another Tuesday has rolled around, Barbara here with a new card for the Eyelet Outlet Blog.  Here in Canada we just celebrated Victoria Day, it was a windy, cool and wet weekend but nice to get away to the cottage for the first time this year.  It is nice a quiet and I love to do my crafting there. Father's Day will be here soon and this card would be perfect for a father's day.  Here is what I made with some brads from the Eyelet Outlet store.

I tried a new technique on the background, I used a makeup brush from the local $$ store and some Kalidescope die ink in earth tones and swiped the brush across the cardstock, I do think I need to find a smoother cardstock for this technique. The stamp I used is from Local King Rubber and the first time it's seen ink. I planned this card around the super cute horse brads from the Eyelet Outlet Store.

I added the three enamel stars (also from the Eyelet Outlet) before I put the sentiment in place, once those stars were pressed in place there is no moving them.

Stick To It

I (Lauren) love to make mandalas! Usually I draw or paint them, but it's also realllllly fun --and easy!-- to make them out of stickers. For the cards in this post I've used Eyelet Outlet Enamel Dots and Shapes, which I love because they're self-adhesive, come in many different styles and colors, plus they're a really good value!

For this card, I've used Multi Size Enamel Dots in several shades, as well as some larger (12mm) Flat Top Enamel Dots and a few Multi Color Heart Enamels and Star Enamels as accents. There are many ways to build a mandala, and no real rules, as such, so it's definitely fun to play around and experiment. I chose a black background to really make the colors pop. At the end I added a little bit of doodling with a white gel pen, just to frame the design.

My mandala cards were composed by arranging the enamels in a circular design, working out from the center. Often I just wing it, but when my design calls for precision, I like to start with a perfect circle--I usually trace around a cup, or a roll of tape! I mark the center point of the circle, as well as the center points of each side of my paper. Ordinarily I do this verrrrrry lightly in pencil, but in this case I've darkened it up so you could see what I mean. Once I've got a basic framework in place it's on to the FUN PART! :)

For my second card, I added a few colorful reinforcement stickers from the office supply store into the mix, as well as the round centers of the stickers that would ordinarily be discarded. I liked them, though, because they added another size of circle to fill in between the enamels. Plus the white centers added even more contrast to the design. When I was done, I neatly trimmed around my mandala with scissors, so that I could add even more color in the background.

On my third card, I switched to a white background, but stayed with the Enamel Dots and Shapes, page-reinforcements, and centers. This time I added quite a bit more doodling with a fine black pen, which allowed me to work in other shapes, like scallops, diamonds and petals.

There's really no limit to what you can create with just some basic shapes and a little imagination. I hope you'll be inspired to make mandalas or other geometric designs to use in your cards and projects!
