GEAR UP for a Great School Year!

I like to make shaker cards and I like to made shaped cards, so how about a shaped shaker card? I created this for my granddaughter to wish her a great school year, but this card could easily be adapted to a birthday card, too, with a little switch to the sentiment.

I filled the shaker with Eyelet Outlet gear brads (prongs removed for this application so they would shake) and some Eyelet Outlet heart sequins.

I also added some of the Eyelet Outlet eye brads and I think they are absolutely EYE POPPING!

Halloween Treat Bags

 

Decorating these little Halloween treat bags was such fun!  There's so many amazing Halloween themed embellishments available at Eyelet Outlet, as you can see from this project. And there's even more at EyeletOutlet.com

This little witch is from Cricut's Mini Monster's image set, but I substituted Eyelet Outlet Witch Legs brads for the originals.  I also used Eyelet Outlet Eye brads on her face and a round jeweled brad on her dress.  The jeweled brads are on sale now, too!   There's a mini spider brad in that cob web as well as a cute black kitten brad in the corner.  

And don't forget about the washi tape!  I used some purple glitter tape on my witch's hat as well as a few strips of black and white and some Happy Halloween tape.

The Cutest Trick-or-Treaters on the Block!

Here's a shocking true confession: Until recently, I (Lauren) have not made Halloween cards every year. I think it was just because I didn't ever seem to have the right ingredients; by which I mean a selection of Eyelet Outlet Halloween Brads. Because now that I do, I ♥LOVE♥ making Halloween cards, and this one might be my favorite so far: 

When I was lucky enough to win my choice of Pretty Pink Posh stamp sets (via the Summer Blog Hop at Coffee Loving Cardmakers) I chose Holiday Pals because I knew they'd look adorable dressed up for Christmas with Eyelet Outlet Antler Brads and Elf Hats. But when I was looking through my Halloween stash, I realized they'd be equally adorable dressed up to Trick-or-Treat! From left to right I've given them: Witch Hats, Small Eyes, Mustache Brads, Witch Legs, Men's Hats and Eye Glass Brads. 

My top tip for adding brads to small fussy-cut creatures is to add the brads BEFORE you cut the critters out; that way you can use the hidden bits of cardstock as extra support! For example, I cut around these guys' HATS, rather than just their heads. I also suggest turning the brads a bit, if necessary, to hide them better behind the critters. However, if necessary, you can trim the brad legs with sturdy craft scissors. If bits of the brads can be seen through-- as in the case of the Eye Glass Brad on the Bulldog and the Mustache Brad on the Bunny-- use a pen that coordinates with your background to color the part that can be seen, so that you do not have to trim INSIDE the image to make it fit! In the case of the awesome Witch Leg Brads, they were just slightly too long for Miss Kitty, so I trimmed them with my sturdy craft scissors, and attached them to the front of the cat with gluedots.

All that was left to do is build a scene for the sweet Trick-or-Treaters to inhabit. I used patterned paper for the sky and the moon, Wide Brick Washi for the wall, Glitter Black Tape for the pavement, then filled in with Pumpkins, Kittens and Bat Brads to add a little more seasonal color!

Rudolph's Ready!

Hello again, friends!  I'm happy to be here with you today (thought it wasn't gonna happen there for a while, since we have been having cable/internet problems off and on all week!).  

Sometimes ideas for creativity come quickly, and others...well, some ideas have to steep for a while!   I had been contemplating what to do with these antlers for a while now, but the other day (when I was rearranging things in my studio so the cable guy could get in there!) I came across a Tim Holtz Christmas greenery die, and a lightbulb went off!  It's funny how a quick glance at something can really get the ball rolling!

I took that die, a leaf die from a Spellbinders set, along with an oval, and came up with this little fella!  The oval forms his face, the leaves, his ears, and the Christmas greenery with a knot of jute on top his "fringe."  He's got Eyelet Outlet brad eyes, a shiny red enamel dot nose, and of course, the antlers that were the initial inspiration for the whole project.  A simple line with a teardrop shape for a mouth is the only "drawing" that I had to do.  A few swipes with a pale pink Copic marker add some accents, sponging with distress ink gives dimension, and a glitter pen brings just enough magical sparkle!

I had so much fun making this project!  I hope you like it!  It isn't too late to still crank out a few Christmas cards, or a few gift tags for the big night!   Have fun!

ghouls, ghosts and goblins

Yes, it's the time of year to start having a little Halloween fun ... and what better way to do it than by checking out all of the great new Eyelet Outlet products in the store.

Easy Peasy Corner Critter Bookmarks

Hi everyone!  I'm here today with a super quick craft that you can do with or for your kids! With the start of school approaching,  I thought they might enjoy having a fun bookmark or two to get them excited about reading!  (Even though my homeschooling days are long over, I guess I'm still a homeschool mom at heart!) 

These are really quick and easy to make (especially if you use thin origami paper rather than heavier designer paper) and they're as cute as can be.  You can come up with all sorts of ideas for critters, and make them as simple or as ornate as you like!  They would even be a fun make-and-take party favor.  

First up is a quirky bat with big wings, little ears, and fangs.  His eyes are the smaller sized eye brads that come 12 to a pack in two sizes.  I attached them before making the final folds, so the ends are enclosed and won't get in the way as the bookmark moves on and off the page.  I kept my design super simple, but if you were making this for an older child you could bling it up with some sticky-backed pearl strips to accent the folds of the wings.

Next up is a frog.  A couple of circle dies or punches really make the larger sized eye brads stand out on the printed paper.  Again, the ends of the brads are enclosed to keep the inside smooth and to hopefully also discourage tiny fingers from fiddling with them!

Design Team Monday with Kerry

Hello Eyelet Outlet fans, Kerry here.  

I'm sharing two fun cards using some ribbons and eyelets with you today. 

For the first card, I used the glasses ribbon and black washi paper tape to create the background.  

I added this adorable scientist from Paper Smooches, then finished it with an Eye Glass Brad (Since the eye glass brad was a little bit too big for the scientist,  I cut off the middle to fit) and some glossy accent.

And here is a closer look.

Supplies:  Eyelet Outlet Glasses ribbon, Eyelet Outlet Eye Glasses brads, washi paper tape, Paper Smooches Great Chemistry set, and glossy accent.

How about some aliens/monsters action?  For the second card, I created the background using the monster ribbon. I added the cityscape from Memory Box, and an adorable alien with a small eye brad.

Supplies:  Eyelet Outlet Monster ribbon, Eyelet Outlet Small eye brads, Memory Box Cityscape Nighttime die cut, and Paper Smooches  Space Cadet.
