Musical Thanks

 
Hello and Happy Easter! My card today is a musical themed thank you card. I play flute at my church and the church pianist helps me pick music and practices with me, mostly out of the goodness of her heart and love of music. I’m always looking for a musical themed card to thank her after each time I play. This one works perfectly and the EO brads and bling make it extra special.

So back to the card. This is on an A2 metallic gold card base. I cut a grand piano and a piano keyboard with dies. I made a strip border with white cardstock and added Instrument Washi Tape as an accent. I embossed a white panel with a thanks themed folder, then placed the washi tape accent on top. The keyboard and piano die are placed and then I add the accents. First are the Music Note Brads. Then I added yellow rose brads. The finishing touches are the 12mm Clear Jewels and White Pearl Bling. 

I love how this one turned out and I know my pianist will really appreciate this and will display it in her home. I can’t wait to give it to her!

Bird Words

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree...

Happy Birthday to You!

Hello. Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

If you're like me, you never seem to have enough birthday cards, so I have one to share with you today that uses a unique combination of Eyelet Outlet Brads, Enamel Dots, and Washi Tape.

My inspiration for this card was actually a pair of eye glasses - in the form of a brad. 

I got to thinking - why not make a face!?!?!?

So I did:

The eyes are Enamel Dots.

Yes, I wished I had a birthday hat, but since I didn't I adapted and used a Witch Hat and added a Glitter Enamel Dot to the end for a pom pom.

And what birthday is complete without some Balloons and the singing of Happy Birthday to you (hence the Music Note Washi Tape)!?!?!?

Marilyn was Born to Sparkle!

TGIF crafty friends!  Susie here with another ATC*.  This one is features a collage I built around the Marilyn Monroe Washi Tape from Eyelet Outlet.  Time to play...

I started by stamping with black ink on white cardstock. 

I don't have pics of me building the collage.  I started with the images of Marilyn then added in bits from the Butterfly Music and Musical Notes washi tapes, keeping the lines horizontal.  I just played around until I was happy then I added the pops of red with the Skinny Washi tape. When I was done I matted the ATC, alternating black and white cardstock before popping it up on the card front.  And no card with Marilyn would be complete without bling, right?  The 12mm Jewel Bling comes in a pack of 40 self adhesive pieces in pink and red with a clear detail around the edge.

Make sure the inside is as pretty as the outside - love this sentiment!

I added some clear jewel bling.  Gotta love sparkle so it's a good thing it comes in packs of 100!

Black and White (Again!)

I (Lauren) really thought I was done making Valentines. In fact, I had a totally different plan for this week. And then I sat down with my Eyelet Outlet Tapes and Brads and it turned out I had two more ideas, lol!

My first card features a heart covered with Red Dot Tape, inspired by something I saw on Instagram, in which the artist covered a shape not with neat strips of washi, but little randomly torn segments. It gives a totally different, much more casual look, that I really like. For this method instead of cutting the shape from white cardstock and then covering it with tape, I covered an area of cardstock slightly larger than the heart template I wanted to use, and then traced and cut out the shape after all the tape was applied.

When I had my heart all set to go, I added a glittery "XO" in letter stickers, and made a background using a sort of gridded patterned paper, with strips of Love Tape, Music Tape and Music Note Washi. I don't actually need to mass-produce cards for anything just now, but the next time I do, I want to remember this method because it was easy and fun!

For my second card, I went back to lining the tape up neatly. In this case it's the gorgeous wide Butterfly Music Washi, and instead of placing the strips of tape right next to each other, I left a gap between each segment about the same size as the gap between the lines of notes on the tape itself. For my sentiment I found the perfect pre-made journaling card, which I trimmed down a tiny bit, because I didn't want to cover more of the pretty background than I had to, lol! I placed a pink Heart Brad directly over a pink heart that was part of the card's design, then added a Butterfly Brad and a Butterfly Profile for even more texture and interest.

More Cards Inspired by Music

Music always inspires me!  It's funny, but my brain thinks in lyrics and music nearly as often as it does in words and images.  Sometimes I wake up with music and an idea in my head.  Other times, it's like a recording on replay and the idea takes time to soak in and take shape.  

I have two projects today that are both music-inspired, blessed by a bit of serendipity, and definitely influenced by my design teammates and their creativity!  (Did you see Susan's card from yesterday and all of these cool "plumbing" cards?!)

First up is a punny version of "What are you doin' New Year's Eve?"   I had deliberately planned to use watercolor paper, paints and distress inks with our pipe brads, but as I was cutting the words, the stamped sentiment happened to assume the shape of a tree.  I looked down and couldn't resist going with the flow (I know, another corny pun, but I had to do it!).  

It made sense to use Clock Washi Tape and Music Note Washi Tape - Mini Notes as part of the background along with a clock stencil, and of course, the tree had to have gold glitter enamel ornaments and be topped with a sparkling Jewel Star Brad.     

Inside, the clock and music motifs repeat, with a watercolored, stamped calendar to save the date!  

My second card practically made itself...the paper clay bells ornament is one that I made way back when I was on the FlowerSoft design team.  From the minute I laid eyes on the Holiday Bell Washi Tape, I knew they would have to play together!  Looks so pretty with EO jewel bling in multi sizes.

I'm sure you're not surprised to see more of my favorite Skinny Washi Tape.   That red is a great match and is simply perfect for the holidays!  

I can't believe Christmas is only 10 days away!  Time is short to squeeze in a few more holiday cards!    Wishing the best to you and yours!  See you next week!

Girlfriends are...

...born to shop!  It's Black Friday, so today's project is all about the shopping!  This trio of blinged-out grandmas is out for a good time together while searching for some great bargains!  

This shopping bag is a recycled bag from the bookstore where my son works.  I covered the logo with some cute designer papers in holiday colors, paper-piecing the focal image with scraps from the same paper pad.  The edges of the green panel are bordered with sticky jewel bling strips.  My favorite, most-oft-used washi tape set, Eyelet Outlet's 5-roll skinny washi tape set, plays along nicely with some music washi and planner washi for a fun calendar theme that harmonizes with the designer paper.  The big layered paper flower mimics the flowers in their hats,  which were given single jewel accents cut from the sticky back bling strips.  Yep, these are gaudy grandmas!  The more bling, the better!  ;)

The tag accenting the top of the bag features more skinny washi tape, a sticky-back bling heart and a tiny calendar of December.

One Card Three Ways: Christmas Ornament Edition

Hi folks, it's Lauren here again. I'm starting to really think about Christmas and feeling pretty excited about finishing up my cards. I know most cardmakers like to mass-produce one holiday design, but I don't enjoy that so much. Something I don't mind, though, is making a couple of different versions of the same card. So today I have a set of ornaments that represent my three favorite categories of Eyelet Outlet products: Brads, Bling and Washi Tape!

For my Bling card I used some papers I had pre-painted with ColorBurst pigment powders, and used stencils with inks and embossing paste on top. I created the bauble shapes using some hand-cut ornament templates I made for myself a few years ago, but there are plenty of beautiful dies available to shortcut that procedure for you. I wanted to work in as many bling varieties as possible, so I've got Clear Edge Jewels, Square Jewels, Single Jewels, Single Pearls, Heart Pearls and I've even used a bit of the new Fancy Long Bling on the round bauble, which I arranged as a mirror-image, then placed a few extra large Pearl Bling Jewels inside the openings created by the zig zag design. I made the tops of the ornaments from Glitter Silver Tape and constructed my own patterned paper by filling an A2-sized inset panel with Music Note Washi.

For my Brads card I pieced the ornaments from a neutral palette so the Christmas Cookies, Poinsettia and Prancing Deer would stand out really well. I made the tops of the baubles from Glitter Gold Tape this time, to fit the color scheme better.

For the Tape card I chose bright shades of traditional red and green. I covered the bauble shapes with tape, then burnished well and trimmed them neatly. I used Holly Tape (with a small Paper Flower and Enamel Dot) for the heart ornament; Red Dots with an accent of Vertical Red Tree Tape for the elongated shape and highlighted strips of Merry Christmas Tape with an accent of that cute green Santa Tape sandwiched by Skinny Stripes Tape for the round shape.

Old Fashioned Christmas Cards

Hello Eyelet Outlet fans!  I'm here today with a pair of cards that were completed with no stamping.  I love to stamp and color but sometimes, especially at Christmas, it's nice to have a faster alternative.  Eyelet Outlet brads and washi to the rescue! 

First up is Santa's List.  I love this old-fashioned looking Santa washi tape.  

A pine tree brad and a prancing reindeer add color and visual interest in keeping with the theme.

A cute sled brad and some music note washi are the perfect companions for this snowman.  I love the pop of orange and red together in the midst of the muted, more traditional Christmas colors.  This is a sentiment you've just gotta sing!

Love and Butterflies

I (Lauren) had the very great pleasure of meeting Suzanne Marchesano, the owner of Eyelet Outlet, and my design team sister Kim Venezia at the Stamp and Scrapbook Expo in Edison, NJ last week! Let me just say this: if you ever get the chance to visit the EO booth in person, TAKE IT, because seeing that many cool brads, washi tape varieties and types of bling all together in one place... not to mention ALL of the amazing samples made by the EO designers... is just sooooooooooo very cool! I guarantee you'll come away with loads of inspiration as well as fantastic products; though I confess I did get some really cool goodies, too! This week I'm all about butterflies!

 
I was inspired by the gorgeous Butterfly Music Wide Washi Tape, which I've paired with Butterfly Brads, Butterfly Profile Brads, and Mini Butterfly Brads, to make a card and a tag in two different colorways. I should mention that all of the butterfly varieties come with an assortment of colors in the same packet, so you don't have to choose just pink or just yellow... you can have the whole rainbow on one card if you like!

At the show on Saturday, Suzanne told me a really cool idea she had for using our Long Bling Strips to frame silhouetted shapes, so I definitely wanted to give that a try. I've used them on straight outlines before, but it didn't occur to me that I could bend them into softer lines, around curves?

It worked really well, though. I took a Pearl Black Bling Strip, started at one end of a butterfly diecut I'd fashioned from cardstock covered with Music Note Tape, and kept following the contour all the way around. I *LOVE* how this came out, so you'll definitely be seeing the technique again!

To finish up the card I framed the Butterfly Music Tape with some Pink Argyle Tape and loads of machine stitching.

For the tag, I used most of the same ingredients, but in a scaled down version, and with yellow butterflies instead of pink. This time I used the leftover Pearl Black Bling Strips as a border to the Butterfly Music Tape, which is one of the fastest ways to get totally elegant dimension and texture on any project.

Of course, since the Bling Strips are 12 inches long, come four to a packet, are available in both gem and pearl versions, and sport LOTS of colors...there's sure to be a variety that's perfect for whatever you'd like to make today! ♥
