Teacher Gift Card Holder

It's that time of year when we breath deep and congratulate ourselves as parents for making it through the school year. Don't forget to thank the teachers that made it happen before everyone heads home for the summer! Today's project is a simple but fun gift card holder that's perfect to hold your child's teacher something they appreciate. Before cutting the paper for this with the die, I covered it with strips of Tape Measure Washi and Skinny Heart Washi. The heart washi comes in a set of three pastel colors and I alternated the strips between the Tape Measure Washi. The heart pattern is printed in a holographic foil. It looks great with the wider yellow washi. 

When this opens, the gift card holder pops up. I decorated that with a strip of each washi as well. A sentiment to say thanks to the teacher is included

To make the front of the gift card holder pop, I cut two cardstock circles and added school related brads. The first has a Mini Lady Bug Brad, an Apple Brad, and a Headphone Brad.

The circle on the right holds a Book Brad, Mini Lady Bug Brad, and a Sketched Owl Brad.

Here again is the finished gift card holder. I hope this gives you some ideas for a last minute gift for a special teacher!

Seize the Daisy!

 

Hello everyone! It's Janet with a summer card featuring many washi tapes and brads that can be found in the store.

I thought it would be fun to show that you can use washi tape instead of patterned paper for backgrounds. While the team has shown that often, this is a slight twist since I've used five different washi tape backgrounds in this case. The combinations of backgrounds is really only limited by your color choices and imagination.

If you'd like to try to do a similar card style, you can use Card Sketch #2 from Mary at Cardz TV. Just search Cardz TV sketches to find her free sketches. She has several fun ideas to try.

To make this card, I cut the rectangles in white cardstock at the sizes indicated in the sketch. Then I chose my washi tapes and applied them to the cardstock. I trimmed off excess tape. Then I stamped the pots, colored them with Copic markers and drew in stems and leaves. I added Colored Daisy brads, Mini Bee Brads and Funky Bee brads. I also stamped the sentiment and added Mini Leaf brads. The shopping list below links to all the brads and washi tape I used.

Once all the pieces were complete, I placed them on an A2 card base and glued them in place. The flower pots and sentiment were then added to the front. It's a fun card that would be great to send to anyone just to say hi, thanks or to let them know you're thinking of them.

I Like the Way You Roll!

 Today I have a fun card that plays on the toilet paper theme again. I don't know why but I can't get enough of these adorable toilet paper rolls with the cute little quilting in them. They're just so cute!

This card starts with a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of white cardstock. I applied EO's Flower Washi Tape - Wide at an angle and folded over the tape overhange on the back of the cardstock. Then I applied strips of skinny washi  to hide the seams from the Skinny Heart Washi set. This comes in several colors in a set from the store. It is pretty and delicate with foil hearts and scrolling. Then I coated the chipboard letters with chalk paint and applied them on top of the panel leaving room at the top for the black heat embossed sentiment. I applied a short piece of Jewel Bling Strip in pink next to the sentiment and set the two Toilet Paper Brads. I matted the panel on black cardstock and then applied the whole panel on a pink A2 sized cardbase.

This card may be about toilet paper but the large photo-real flowers are a nice change of pace as we start dreaming about spring. I just felt so good working with this tape! And bonus! This one goes together fast.

Did Someone Order Breakfast?

Because I (Lauren) have two yummy Breakfast ATC's for you that contain zero fat, cholesterol or calories. They feature the awesome Bacon, Egg and Toast Brad Set from Eyelet Outlet!

I love making Artist Trading Cards, the official dimensions of which are the same as a playing card: 2.5 x 3.5". I'll tell you a secret... most of my ATC's (including these) are made directly on top of a playing card from an old deck that's missing a few cards, which gives me a nice strong substrate on which to work. I made the Toaster ATC first. It features two pieces of Toast from the Bacon, Egg and Toast set plus some pink hearts from the super-useful Multicolor Enamel Hearts set. I used a strip of Skinny Washi to create a horizon line behind the toaster.

In case you're wondering what happened to the Eggs and Bacon from the set, my second card contains the answer, lol. Again I've used Skinny Heart Washi to divide two layers of patterned paper. For the record, the idea for my cracked egg was stolen from (AHEM) I mean inspired by (that's better!) my fellow EO designer Kim Venezia of Katydid Cards. She made this awesome pair of cards that use the Egg Brads with the Bacon, Egg and Toast set as well as our own EO Breakfast Stamps last June!

Totally Do-NUTS About You!

Let's face it, doughnuts are awesome. In real life, they're not something most of us can have in unlimited quantities, which is why I (Lauren) am always thrilled to break out the Eyelet Outlet Doughnut Brads: they're fat-free, calorie-free, and full of cardmaking possibilities!

Since we're in the middle of January, I think we're all sort of in Valentine mode, so I've made three cards that would work perfectly for the holiday, but aren't too specifically Valentine-ish. Because it's nice to have choices, right? The first one actually has hearts on it, but that was mostly because I love the colors of this Skinny Heart Tape with the Doughnut Brad that I've swapped in for the "O". I swapped a Heart Brad for the entire word "heart", as well, which makes my sentiment fit really nicely inside the label shape. I'm always on the lookout for papers with strong, straight horizontal lines in them. Ledger and notebook patterns not only look great, they're a great helping hand for placing my tape stripes neatly in the background!

One of the reasons I chose this colorful Dot Washi Tape is that it kind of reminded me of rainbow sprinkles, which are awesome with Doughnut Brads, don't you think? I made my background patterned paper by neatly lining up strips of the tape on a piece of plain white cardstock that I'd cut down to fit perfectly on my A2 card front. This time I moved the sentiment panel off to the right side of the card, but balanced it out by placing the letters towards the left side of the label.

I love pastel pink as much (or MORE, lol!) as anyone I know, but for my third card I chose to celebrate the chocolate Doughnut Brad. I made a background panel from Pink and White Dot Foil Tape, which I revealed unevenly by tearing some dark brown dotted cardstock... a bit like peeling the wrapper of a candy bar! I composed my sentiment with oversized vinyl letters and trimmed-down Dymo labels; and added a few strips of Skinny Brown Glitter Tape just behind the word "donut" for even more emphasis.

Are You Ready For Your Close-Up?

I (Lauren) never stop being amazed by the things that can inspire me. Eyelet Outlet Brads and Washi Tape are an endless source, obviously, but this week I found some cool new ways to use them, thanks to a $2 camera stamp from the bargain bin at a big box crafting store!

My first idea was to pair the camera with the Selfie Brad set. I love that the packets contain six smart phones and six "Selfie" badges, and that the phones come in a few different colors. Although obviously, my favorites are the pink ones, lol! That being the case, I paper pieced the camera stamp in some neutral grey papers with an accent of Skinny Stars Washi. I used a Pink Heart Enamel for the lens and a Pink Enamel Dot for the button, with a small clear gem as the flash.  

My next idea happened because when I made the "Beach" card a couple of weeks ago, I had a pineapple-- with adorable Sunglass Brad--  and a palm tree all ready to go, but wound up not needing them. Somehow they became the stars of their very own faux polaroid, with a sky made from Blue Dots Washi and torn Glitter Gold Tape as the sandy beach. Of course I needed a Sunshine Brad and I paper pieced another camera, this time using Skinny Green Stripe Washi with Yellow Enamel Heart and Dot accents. 

Faux polaroids are quite a favorite of mine, so my third card uses another one. The sentiment "Oh Snap" works really well for anything from a belated birthday to a get well card, so I kept the rest of the embellishments pretty simple so that it could be used for many different occasions. I used the leftover pieces from the first grey camera, but this time I used Red Enamels and Skinny Clouds Tape to accent the body. I "matted" the strip of camera-patterned paper with Glitter Silver tape, just to make it stand out a tiny bit more. I actually had the whole card put together when I spotted another pair of Sunglass Brads sitting on my work table, and I just couldn't resist adding them as well. 

The next time you have trouble choosing between more than one card idea, why not get out your Eyelet Outlet embellishments and make them all?!

The Post With the Most

Don't get me wrong, I (Lauren) love technology, but there's something about finding an actual card or letter in the mailbox that makes the whole day brighter, don't you think? I love to send snail mail to my friends and family, especially cards! So I was pretty excited when I saw these Eyelet Outlet Mail Brads:

And I really love that each packet contains both mailboxes and envelopes!

Speaking of envelopes, I've become somewhat obsessed with making my own custom ones, that match my cards! And my favorite decoration for them is (of course) Washi Tape! 

In this case, I've used the same mixture of tapes on both my card and the matching envelope: Red White and Blue Striped Washi, Air Mail Washi, Skinny Heart Washi, Gold Script Tape and my favorite Hearts Tape. I've used them in straight lines on the card, to highlight the focal image with the Mail Brads on it; but placed them at a diagonal on the envelope, to add extra interest to the vintage dictionary paper. 

I've placed the Red White and Blue Striped Washi, around the edges of a pale blue cardstock panel on both the card and the address label, and trimmed it to slightly less than half its normal width... to mimic the look of old-time airmail envelopes.

A few hand-cut hearts and a label-maker sentiment seemed to enhance the nostalgic mood, and instantly we're back to the 1970's, when this lovely old eight cent stamp could transport your kind thoughts across town or country!

Je T'aime, Valentine

Bonjour, mes amies! Lauren here, with a Valentine gift idea that could work at any time of year, really. I started with an inexpensive papier mache box and a heart punch, added lots of fun Eyelet Outlet embellishments-- including my beloved Eiffel Tower Brads-- and here's what I came up with:

I do love banners! They are easy and fun to make, and can be adapted to literally any occasion. For this one I punched medium sized hearts and tiny circles, then got right to the FUN PART: embellishing! In addition to Eiffel Tower Brads, I've got some Star Brads, Swirl Bling, Paper Flowers and Heart-Shaped Pearls.

My favorite Paris Love Washi solved the biggest problem I've had in the past when decorating little boxes: how to neatly cover the edge of the lid? Washi is not only the perfect size for this job, it's also self-adhesive! I added a band of Skinny Hearts Washi to the bottom of the box, as well.

I wanted the top of the box to coordinate with the banner, so I used the same elements, again--Eiffel Tower Brads, Swirl Bling and Paper Flowers --but made them a little more prominent, to suit the size and shape of the lid.

One of the things I like about this idea is its flexibility. Whether your Valentine loves Italy, Dinosaurs, Sports or Gardening, Eyelet Outlet has a brad for that!

The Valentiniest Valentine of All Time! :)

Hi guys, it's Lauren, celebrating the fact that it is EXACTLY one month until Valentine's Day, so if you haven't ordered yourself some heart-ful Eyelet Outlet goodies, or started sampling dark chocolate candies to see which ones will make the best gifts*, today's a great day to start! I've made a really traditional card, just to show you just a few of the many cool heart items from which you could choose in the Eyelet Outlet store:

For the record, there is NO patterned paper on this card, I've used three different tapes to make my heart squares: Heart Washi, Skinny Heart Washi and the Stripey Hearts which, alas, are out of print, but luckily there are LOTS MORE varieties in stock! I've got some pretty Pink Paper Flowers attached with a Heart Brad and a tiny (1/16"!) Mini Round Brad. Black is admittedly not a traditional Valentine's Day color, lol, but it surely does make the red and white *POP* don't you think? In addition to the black ink of the sentiment and those uber-skinny black mats, the black enamels from the Vacation Heart Colorway really tie everything together.

Bon Voyage, In My Dreams...

I (Lauren) have mentioned before that I've always dreamt of going to Paris. So far I've only seen it via film, television, and vintage books, but I never get tired of those! Here's a card with a world travel theme, a nostalgic vibe, and some Autumnal color... which seems like a nice fit for a Sunday in October, don't you think? 

Eyelet Outlet has sooooooo many lovely travel-themed items, it's hard to choose just a few, so I didn't, lol! The Eiffel Tower Brads, are obviously a big fave of mine, though, and I knew one of those would look awfully cool on top of the Wide Travel Washi, so I started there. I applied a strip of the tape neatly to a piece of white cardstock, then I lined up a couple of strips of Heart Tape, and one of Gold Script Tape, above and below the wider tape, so that I had a little "collage" tall enough to fit my title. I neatly traced around the chipboard letters I wanted to use with a permanent marker, taking care to place each character at the same level, so the patterns would line up horizontally. Then I used a craft knife on the centers of the b and o, and trimmed the rest with scissors.

The sparkly letters are diecut from a few strips of Glitter Copper Tape stuck to scrap cardstock. I've mounted them against a strip of Gold Script Tape and Skinny Hearts Washi applied to my card background, which is trimmed from the "Index of Principal Cities" from a vintage atlas. Et voila... a diecut butterfly and some swirly machine stitching complete the design.

has thoroughly prepared for Parisian adventures by collecting art supplies with the Eiffel tower on and reading the Maigret books. Ninety percent of her French vocabulary is food-related. 

SRSLY? OMG!

I (Lauren) was surprised earlier this year when my retired, and not especially "tech-savvy" mother got her first smart phone. The reason? She wanted to be able to text with her grandchildren! Of course the best part of texting is being able to use all those cuuuuuuuuute emojis, right? Well, good news, now we can use Eyelet Outlet Emotion Brads and Emotion Mini Brads on cards, too!

I made a fun background of text speak using my vintage typewriter, but you could easily stamp or computer-generate something similar. Before I began typing, I lightly traced around the brads and the Heart Enamels I wanted to use, so that I'd be sure to leave enough space, in the right places. It's pretty hard to type right down to the bottom of the page, so I filled in the last few lines with a strip of Tape Measure Washi and a strip of Skinny Hearts Tape.

I can think of sooooooo many fun uses for these... I'm probably going to need more than one pack! :)
